Elections Alberta is hiring 60,000 Albertans
For the referendum on October 19, 2026 — the largest recruitment drive in Alberta's history. Positions are open in all 87 electoral divisions, so there is work near you wherever in the province you live.
Applications close October 10, 2026. Training runs in early October, so late applications can't be placed.

The nine roles
You pick your preferred roles when you apply. Elections Alberta has not published a public rate card for 2026 — all positions are paid, and the rate is confirmed during hiring.
Site Supervisor
18+The senior official at a voting place, responsible for all staff and activities on site.
Information Officer
16+Greets electors and directs them to the right voting area. Usually the first person voters meet.
Voting Officer
18+Issues ballots and manages the ballot box at a voting station.
Registration Officer
18+Registers electors who are not already on the list, and handles address changes.
Record Clerk
16+Maintains the official record of who has voted at the voting place.
Ballot Box Clerk
16+Supervises the ballot box and helps electors deposit their ballots correctly.
Count Supervisor
18+Runs a counting centre and is accountable for the integrity of the count.
Count Coordinator
18+Coordinates counting teams and reconciles totals as results come in.
Counting Officer
16+Counts ballots after voting closes, working to the 48-hour reporting deadline.
Who can apply
You need to be
- Alberta resident, 16 or older (several roles require 18+)
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Must pass a criminal record check
- No political activity of any kind while employed
- Must swear an oath upholding Elections Alberta’s non-partisan mandate
You can't apply if you are
- Sitting MPs, MLAs, municipal councillors and school trustees
- Candidates in the referendum
- Judges
- Anyone convicted of an indictable offence in the past 10 years

Jobs are staffed division by division, and Elections Alberta asks which one you can work in. Type your city or town — not the division name — and this will tell you which divisions cover you. Calgary spans 26 of them; Okotoks sits inside one called Highwood.
