Edmonton Police Are Under Investigation After a Letter They Sent About Nina Napope's Killer Was Called "Reprehensible" by a Judge
ASIRT is investigating a letter Edmonton Police sent to Crown prosecutors in September 2025 during the prosecution of Ashley Rattlesnake, who killed eight-year-old Nina Napope Dumais. The sentencing judge called the letter reprehensible and cited it as a mitigating factor in Rattlesnake's sentence. The police meant to push for more. It backfired.

Stony Plain Is Building a $41.6 Million Recreation Facility With a Six-Sheet Curling Rink, Turf Field, and Pickleball Courts. It Opens Late 2026.
The Stony Plain Regional Community Recreation Facility is under construction next to the new Westview School in Old Town South. The $41.6 million facility serves Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Parkland County and includes a six-sheet curling rink, indoor turf field, pickleball courts, walking track, and community spaces. It is on schedule and on budget for a Q4 2026 opening.

Edmonton Man Convicted of Fake E-Transfer Scam Is Out on Probation and Already Charged Again. Police Have a Warrant.
Ryan Kenzie, 46, was convicted of nine fraud offences for meeting sellers of phones, watches, and jewellery in Edmonton and Sherwood Park and leaving without paying. He served his sentence, was released on probation, and was almost immediately charged with the same scheme again. An arrest warrant is outstanding.

Edmonton Police Arrested Three People Who Hit 18 Gym Locker Rooms Across Three Provinces and Stole More Than $25,000
Livia Cozma, 41, Orlando-Constantin Vaduva, 52, and Bogdan Todica, 40 were arrested in Winnipeg in April after police linked them to at least 18 locker room break-ins at Edmonton fitness facilities, plus additional incidents in Ontario and Manitoba. They now face 59 combined charges.

Edmonton Dance Studio Just Won a Golden Buzzer on America's Got Talent. Terry Crews Raced Onto the Stage to Give It to Them.
Acro Canine Crew a 20-member Edmonton dance team from Supernova Acro Studio combined with trained performance dogs won the Golden Buzzer on the Season 21 premiere of America's Got Talent on June 2. Host Terry Crews ran down from the stage to press it. The group advances directly to the Live Shows.

Sherwood Park Is Getting a $65 Million Indoor Fieldhouse. Soccer, Pickleball, Lacrosse, and Baseball Under One Roof.
Strathcona County broke ground in spring 2026 on a new indoor fieldhouse at 240 Broadview Drive in Sherwood Park. The $65 million facility fits soccer, baseball, lacrosse, rugby, pickleball, tennis, and badminton under one roof. It is the largest recreation investment in Strathcona County history.
