Join the Finning Canada family, part of the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer. We are currently looking for a dedicated Heavy Duty Mechanic 2nd yr Apprentice who is responsible to perform minor diagnostics, minor repairs, and servicing to all equipment in fleet, under direct supervision of a ticketed Journeyperson.This position will work a 7x7 continuous shift rotation. Job Description:
Basic Functions:
- Performs and completes SMF inspections to rental equipment in shop & yard
- Notifies parts required to make repairs or perform servicing
- Notifies shop personnel and service writer on damaged or missing equipment immediately, noting customer damages.
- Follows instructions from journeypersons as to procedures & repair methods
- Follow all safe work & shop safety polices while performing work in shop & yard
- Completes paperwork properly for branch service writer, receives & keeps track of given work orders for equipment being repaired
- Ensures work orders are given to parts when parts are ordered
- Installs parts as requested by shop foreman, service writer, service manager under supervision of a journeyperson
- Must be able to properly complete JHA (job hazard analysis)
- Advising supervisors of time off requests with proper notice & properly report sick days immediately as identified in employee hand book
- Proper clock in & out procedure followed, make note to be on time
- Responsible for general housekeeping in assigned area
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in performing engine, drive train servicing on general construction equipment or trained by TCRS employee
- Must be a current 2nd year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice
- Willing to work towards Heavy Equipment Technician Certification
- Meet the requirements of article 5.02 of the Alberta Collective Agreement
- Highly motivated and safety focused
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Previous Caterpillar mining equipment experience and basic computer skills
- Mechanical aptitude with a basic understanding of TCRS equipment parts and repairs.
Note
- This position is based at our Fort McMurray TCRS facility on a 7x7 continuous shift rotation
- A condition of employment is the ability to obtain Customer Site access (Drug & Alcohol, fitness testing) and wear a respirator where applicable
- Candidate selection will be in compliance with the terms of the current collective agreement
- Any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement
- You are required to become a member of the Union associated with this position. This will be effective immediately and will result in union dues being deducted
