Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.As a Cemetery Worker, you will be responsible for locating graves, crypts, and niches as well as the interpretation of interment orders. You will perform duties individually and in a team environment. Primary duties include:
- Open and close burial graves, grave dressing and removal, mausoleum and columbarium entombments, and the disinterment of buried caskets and urns.
- Offer assistance to the public with pall bearer duties, locating graves and receipt of required permits.
- Provide landscaping maintenance, tree, and shrub planting, placing and removal of sod, excavating holes and trenches, litter collection, snow removal and general maintenance.
- Perform routine equipment and tool maintenance and keep and maintain a daily working log.
- Use power equipment (for example: front end loaders, skid steers, 4 wheeled trucks, snow blowers) and common hand, power or labouring tools (for example: picks, shovels, crowbars, jackhammers).
- A High School diploma or equivalency (for example: GED) combined with at least 1 season (6 months) of cemetery experience, including heavy labouring and equipment operation experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits and no current suspensions or pending charges is required. The successful candidate must obtain a Class 3 Driver's Licence with air brake endorsement (or provincial equivalent) within six months of the start date.
- Ability to interpret and understand maps and work orders (preference given to candidates with demonstrated skills in this area).
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Sound judgement and professionalism when interacting with co-workers, customers, and funeral homes.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Applicants must pass the cemetery training module program within 1 month of their hire date.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
