Position Summary

Join the School of Community Studies as an Instructor – Education Assistant, where you’ll play an important role in supporting students as they develop the knowledge and skills needed for success in the Education Assistant field. You’ll provide high-quality instruction, evaluate student progress, develop and adapt curriculum, and create meaningful learning experiences that support students in achieving their course and program outcomes.

This role requires a commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to deliver curriculum across diverse learning environments, including in-person, online, blended, and organizational settings. You’ll work collaboratively with students, colleagues, industry stakeholders, employers, government agencies, and community partners to ensure learning remains relevant, responsive, and connected to current practice.

What You'll Be Doing

Deliver Quality Instruction

Provide engaging, effective instruction in assigned courses while working within the program’s Competency-Based Education model and delivery framework. You’ll use a variety of instructional strategies to respond to student needs and create lesson plans and learning activities that support successful outcomes.

You’ll also contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the program by:

· Developing and updating curriculum, guides, and rubrics in collaboration with the Learning Design team.

· Evaluating student performance and providing timely progress reports to students and administrators.

· Maintaining accurate and required student and course records.

· Keeping current with changes in best practices and adapting curriculum as appropriate.

Create a Positive Student Learning Experience

Build supportive relationships with students and help them navigate academic challenges throughout their learning journey. You’ll meet with students to discuss concerns related to attendance, conduct, and performance, identify areas requiring additional support, and refer students to the appropriate institutional resources when needed.

You’ll also:

· Work with students to ensure approved accommodations are appropriately supported.

· Refer students to services such as tutoring and counselling when appropriate.

· Identify concerns requiring further follow-up and refer them to the Program Chair.

· Participate in College and departmental activities that promote student success, including orientation and graduation.

Build Relationships and Connect with the Community

Help strengthen connections between the Education Assistant program, the College, and the broader community. You’ll engage with industry and community stakeholders to maintain awareness of current practices and opportunities, while supporting activities that promote the program and student success.

This includes:

· Supporting articulation and transfer activities for students as required.

· Meeting with industry stakeholders and participating in Advisory Networks.

· Attending external community meetings and participating in recruitment events as schedules permit.

· Maintaining professional networks with employers, government agencies, and community partners.

Contribute to the College Community

As an Instructor, you’ll contribute to a culture of continuous learning and professional development. You’ll follow College policies and procedures, complete required professional development and training, and contribute to applied research where appropriate.

Other responsibilities may include participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned.

You have strong skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, student evaluation, and learner support, with an ability to work within a Competency-Based Education model. You are committed to continuous learning and staying current with best practices so that your teaching and curriculum remain relevant and effective.

You also bring strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, industry stakeholders, employers, government agencies, and community partners. You are committed to student success, professional development, and contributing positively to the College community.

Qualifications

Minimum

· Bachelor of Education.

· 4 years of experience in the Canadian Education system.

· Teaching in diverse and inclusive settings

· Strong understanding of the role of Education Assistants.

· Experience in working directly with Education Assistants across multiple settings

· Knowledge of Competency Based Education in post-secondary education

· Police information check including a vulnerable sector.

Preferred

· Supervisory experience with practicum students and/or staff is an asset

· Adult education teaching and learning experience is an asset

· Curriculum development an asset.
