In this role, you will support the operation, configuration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of MacEwan University's student information system, Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Slate, as well as other enterprise and integrated applications.
As a Functional Analyst, you will play an important role in supporting technology and business processes across the student lifecycle, including admissions, recruitment, transfer credit, registration and enrolment, curriculum management, academic scheduling, student records, academic advisement, tuition and fees, scholarships and financial aid, and graduation.
Working at the intersection of university policy, business processes, institutional data, and enterprise technology, you will translate approved requirements into system configuration, investigate and resolve complex functional issues, maintain data integrity, and ensure systems operate reliably and effectively.
Reporting to the Assistant Registrars, Digital Transformation and Enrolment Systems, you will work closely with the Associate Registrar, Digital Transformation: Enrolment, Curriculum, and Scheduling Systems, and collaborate with colleagues across the OUR, faculties, schools, Information and Technology Services (ITS), and external technology partners. You will provide specialized functional expertise to support operational priorities, investigate complex system issues, implement system enhancements, and contribute to major technology and digital transformation initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Enterprise Application Configuration and Administration: Configuring, maintaining, and administering enterprise applications within an assigned student lifecycle portfolio, translating approved university policies, academic regulations, business rules, and operational requirements into accurate system functionality and controls.
- Functional Analysis and Troubleshooting: Independently investigating and resolving complex system, configuration, processing, security, and data issues; identifying root causes, assessing operational impacts, implementing authorized corrective actions, and coordinating technical escalation when required.
- System Testing and Quality Assurance: Developing and executing functional, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing for system changes, enhancements, upgrades, and integrations; analyzing defects, validating outcomes, and assessing readiness for production implementation.
- Data Integrity and Reporting: Developing and using queries, reports, scripts, and system tools to investigate issues, identify affected student populations, reconcile information, validate configuration, and support accurate and reliable institutional data.
- System Integration and Operational Controls: Monitoring system processes, automated functions, and data exchanges across interconnected applications; identifying dependencies, assessing risks, and implementing validation procedures to maintain reliable operations.
- Project and Transformation Support: Providing specialized functional expertise for enterprise technology projects and digital transformation initiatives, including requirements analysis, solution validation, configuration, testing, implementation, and transition to ongoing operations.
- Stakeholder Consultation and Functional Advice: Working with academic and administrative departments to understand operational requirements, explain system capabilities and constraints, provide functional guidance, and coordinate the resolution of cross-functional issues.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Developing and maintaining functional specifications, configuration records, testing materials, operational procedures, and knowledge resources; facilitating demonstrations, training, and knowledge transfer to support consistent and sustainable system operations.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities to strengthen system controls, improve data quality, simplify configuration, reduce recurring manual activities, and enhance the reliability and usability of student information systems.

- Experience developing, interpreting, and troubleshooting queries, scripts, expressions, and other system-specific technical logic, including SQL or comparable tools.
- Strong knowledge of system testing and quality assurance methodologies, including functional testing, regression testing, user acceptance testing, defect management, and validation of system changes.
- The ability to interpret approved policies, academic regulations, business rules, and operational requirements and translate them into accurate system configuration and functional controls.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, including the ability to investigate data discrepancies, validate results, identify trends, and maintain data accuracy and integrity.
- An understanding of data stewardship, privacy, information security, and appropriate access controls when working with sensitive institutional information.
- The ability to assess system dependencies, operational risks, and potential downstream impacts of configuration changes, system enhancements, and data corrections.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical and functional information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong consultation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with academic and administrative departments, technical specialists, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- The ability to develop clear documentation, functional specifications, testing materials, procedures, and training resources.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, critical operational timelines, and project deliverables with limited supervision.
