Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Clemente-Casares Lab is seeks an entry-level technician to support animal colony maintenance and genotyping. The candidate would conduct maintenance and record keeping of the animal colony, will support animal experiments (monitoring) and occasionally help with immunological assays such as ELISA, and flow cytometry. This position requires experience with basic immunoassays and cell culture.
Animal Colony Maintenance ~60%
- Standard mice husbandry, which may include receiving animals
- Makes independent decisions regarding the health and care of animal colonies based on advice from animal care staff, veterinarians and principal investigator
- Assists with animal experiments following discussion and instruction by principal investigator
- Genotyping
Assistance in Research Experiments ~30%
- Prepares standard solutions for the laboratory
- Orders needed laboratory consumables, handles biohazard waste and cleaning of laboratory glassware and other instruments
- Assists other lab members with experiments (ELISA, Flow cytometry, cell culture) as instructed by
the PI
Maintaining Records ~10%
- Maintains current records of experiments
- Assists in maintaining and completing animal protocols and associated paperwork
- Ensures compliance with EHS under the supervision of the principal investigator
- BSc in life sciences (immunology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc)
- Understanding of Immune-assays
- Animal Handling certificate is preferred
- Experience in a research environment
- Experience with handling and care of small animals preferred
- Experience with biohazard, radiation, WHMIS safety and policy
- Computer proficiency with MS Office and other platforms
