Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus and South Campus, Edmonton. Work also takes place at Silent ice Centre, Nisku.
University of Alberta Golden Bears & Pandas Athletics is currently seeking qualified applicants to perform as our team mascots (GUBA and Patches) at athletic events including football, hockey, basketball and volleyball. This position is primarily located at hockey games, at Silent Ice Centre in Nisku, AB.
The mascot performer will be responsible for committing to a proposed schedule throughout the 2026-27 Athletics season. The individual will also be asked to commit to community appearances as these opportunities arise. GUBA & Patches are an integral part of Golden Bears & Pandas Athletics. The individuals who perform as GUBA or Patches must adhere to all duties of the mascot as scripted by the Production Team and Promotion Team. The mascot performer may also be asked to assist in the maintenance associated with the mascot suits, creating routines for promotional entertainment and distributing promotional items designed to help increase attendance at events.
The mascot suit sizing is approximately 5'9" to 6'2" in height.
- Actively engaging with fans of all ages through non-verbal communication, high-fives, photo opportunities, and crowd prompting to boost team spirit during home games.
- Collaborating with the A-Team and Production Crew to execute scheduled promotions, timeout contests, routines, and sponsor giveaways.
- Improvising non-verbal interactions, dances, and comedic bits during lulls in game play to keep audiences entertained.
- Assist with content creation for various social media channels.
- Involved in campus and community events such as Week of Welcome, Clubs Fair, etc.
- Ensure mascot suits are laundered and maintained.
- High school diploma.
- Successful applicants will be asked to complete a Police Record Check prior to hiring, as they will be working with vulnerable populations.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing in the mascot suit for extended periods.
- Must be available weekends, evenings, and some weekday hours.
- Must be able to commit to the position for the entire academic year.
- Must have reliable transportation to/from Silent Ice Centre (Nisku, AB).
- Motivated with the desire to gain experience in enhancing school spirit.
- Outgoing and creative personality with a willingness and desire to have fun.
- Desire and willingness to work with children of all ages and abilities.
- Willingness to represent the mission of Golden Bears & Pandas Athletics on and off campus.
- Initiative, dedication, and a strong work ethic.
