The Alberta Public Service works to build a stronger province for current and future generations. We make a difference in the lives of Albertans through rewarding and diverse career opportunities.

The Alberta Human Rights Commission works with Albertans to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, human rights and diversity. Its overall goal is to develop inclusive communities in which all Albertans can participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the province without discrimination.

Created by the Government of Alberta, the Commission is an independent commission that reports to the Minister of Justice. It has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through the resolution and settlement of human rights complaints; an administratively fair human rights tribunal process, and through education programs, policy development, and collaborative initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

Are you seeking an opportunity to make a meaningful impact across Alberta? Bring your communications expertise and policy insight to help advance human rights, promote the Commission's programs and services, and support its mandate to foster equality and reduce discrimination.

Reporting to the Director, Communication, Education and Engagement, you will lead strategic communications and marketing initiatives while contributing to policy research, analysis, and development. Working with Commission leadership, government partners, and external stakeholders, you will turn complex information into accessible content, provide strategic advice, and support initiatives that promote fairness, inclusion, and participation in Alberta’s social, economic, cultural, and political life.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Leading strategic communications, media relations, social media, branding, and issues management initiatives.
• Developing clear, audience-focused content across digital, print, and stakeholder communication channels.
• Providing strategic communications and policy advice to leadership on emerging issues and organizational priorities.
• Researching human rights issues, legislation, and best practices to inform policy, planning, and decision-making.
• Engaging stakeholders to build partnerships, advance initiatives, and support the Commission's mandate.

What you'll bring to the role:

• Strategic judgment: Assessing complex issues and providing sound, practical advice.
• Audience awareness: Tailoring messages and approaches to diverse audiences.
• Strong communication skills: Building understanding through clear writing, presentations, and consultation.
• Creativity: Finding effective ways to communicate complex ideas and engage audiences.
• Collaboration: Building productive relationships and working effectively across teams and sectors.
• Organization and adaptability: Adjusting to changing priorities while delivering high-quality results.
