MacEwan University is seeking energetic and enthusiastic students to fill casual Recreation Assistant opportunities with the Sport and Wellness department.
The Recreation Assistant will be the on-site leader of recreation leagues. Recreation offers 8 and 9-week leagues in both the Fall and Winter terms. Fall leagues take place from late September to early December, while Winter leagues run from late January to early April with statutory holidays and academic breaks off. Evening leagues run Monday through Thursday, and lunch leagues run Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 11:00am and 2:00pm.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the marketing and delivery of recreation leagues and programs;
- Assisting with Sport and Wellness social media content creation and execution;
- Assisting with set-up and takedown of league supplies and equipment;
- Managing conflict by addressing disciplinary issues with participants;
- Assisting with the training, and mentoring of league staff and referees;
- Being the on-site coordinator for the end of season League Wrap-up and presenting prizing to winners; and
- Attending recreation training.
Skills
You will have:
- Knowledge of sports, including rules, format, rosters, and equipment set up;
- The ability to work effectively in a team, as well as independently;
- Strong interpersonal and communication including oral and written skills;
- Positive leadership qualities;
- Organizational skills with a high attention to detail; and
- The ability to multitask and manage time and schedules.
Qualifications
- Standard First Aid certification.
- Experience in recreation and event management and leadership roles would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
- This position is on campus only.
- The ability to lift and push equipment in excess of 50lbs (22 kg) during set-up and take-down tasks.
- The ability to work a minimum of 4 hours per week during league hours on weekday evenings and/or afternoons.
- May be required to work additional hours for special events and tournaments.
