About the Role
We are seeking a dependable Maintenance Assistant to support weekend maintenance operations within Mount Royal University Residence. This role involves completing routine repairs and general upkeep to help ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-functioning living environment for students. The ideal candidate is able to work independently, follow established procedures, and respond effectively to a variety of maintenance needs. Physical capability, attention to detail, and a flexible, problem-solving approach are essential.
Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00am to 4:00pm (September), Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00pm to 4:00pm (October to April). Extra hours may be assigned as needed/accepted.
*This position works weekends with possible shifts on every second Friday.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs within the university residence
- Complete assigned work orders, including basic plumbing, drywall, and painting tasks
- Safely operate hand and power tools to carry out maintenance duties
- Set up and work on ladders to complete maintenance tasks as required
- Assist with snow removal and other seasonal maintenance activities
- Identify maintenance concerns and report issues to residence or facilities staff
Qualifications
- Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working at heights and using ladders safely
- Basic maintenance experience and mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with using hand and power tools (e.g., drills, hand saws)
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license for occasional work-related travel, if required
- Physically able to work in varying conditions, including outdoor winter tasks
Salary: $21.87 per hour
