Role Responsibilities

The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division/Tax Services/Information Services branch is looking for a full-time Senior Tax Information Officer to join their team!

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Information Services, the Senior Tax Information Officer provides senior-level expertise within the Information Services contact centre to support the accurate, consistent and timely delivery of information and services across all tax programs administered by Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA).

Responsibilities include:

• Review and approve written responses prepared by Tax Information Officers, ensuring accuracy and alignment with legislation, policy, and procedures.
• Respond directly to complex, sensitive, or escalated enquiries through email and telephone channels.
• Perform detailed analysis of account information, financial data, and supporting documentation to assess accuracy of TRA actions.
• Initiate and approve complex account adjustments, including reassessments, transfers, penalty reversals and refunds.
• Process and approve complex, non-routine transactions affecting taxpayer accounts and records.
• Verify the accuracy of tax assessments and ensure correct application of legislation across programs.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Tax Information Officers on complex enquiries, file handling and legislative interpretation.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation to support decisions, adjustments and audit requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• University graduation in Business or a related field plus 3 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalencies:

• Related diploma plus 5 years directly related experience.
• Accounting designation and 1 year additional related experience.

Assets:

• Comprehensive knowledge of Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) operational areas, including relevant policies, procedures, and program administration.
• Experience in general tax and revenue administration related roles.
• Strong working knowledge of TRA systems and workflow tools or comparable systems (e.g., ORACLE, TRACS, CTAX, CIMS, TEFS, 1GX, DRATS).
• Analyzing industry conditions and trends impacting stakeholders and tax administration.
• Ability to interpret and apply tax legislation, including calculations related to tax, interest, and penalties.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools to support communication, documentation, and workflow management.
• Ability to analyze financial statements and related financial information to support accurate assessments and decision-making.
