Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.As an Analyst, Access to Information and Investigations, you will serve as the subject matter expert on the Access to Information Act (ATIA) for the City of Calgary. In this role, you will manage and process access to information requests in accordance with legislative requirements, statutory obligations and mandated response timelines. Success in this position requires the ability to exercise sound judgement, assess risk, and make informed decisions. Experience using redaction software to review and prepare records for disclosure is considered an asset. Knowledge of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and its application is also considered an asset. Primary duties include:
- Receive, review, and process access to information requests.
- Manage multiple files simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
- Assist applicants including clarifying, consulting, negotiating and keeping applicants informed.
- Interpret and apply the Access to Information Act, with consideration of POPA when required.
- Make independent decisions related to access.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to clients and partners.
- Draft ATIA related education and resources including tipsheets, manuals and how-to-guides.
- Update and deliver ATIA training and awareness sessions.

Take the lead in responding to reviews and provide support for inquiries initiated by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC).
- A degree in Social Sciences, Law, Public Administration, Information Systems or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience working in a public service environment.
- Experience in interpretation and application of the Access to Information Act of Alberta or familiarity with POPA or similar provincial or federal legislation.
- Certification from the Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP), or Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC), would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence and strong communication skills, with ability to manage difficult conversations professionally and tactfully.
- Applicants must have well-developed analysis and research skills, including the ability to work well independently.
A security clearance will be conducted.
Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
