Assistant/Associate Professor - Monogastric Nutrition

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus and South Campus, Edmonton.

The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science (AFNS) at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Monogastric Nutrition.

The successful candidate will join the Division of Animal Science in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science. The Animal Science division contributes to the delivery of the BSc Agriculture program, the BSc Animal Health program, the MAg in Animal Science, the MSc in Animal Science, and the PhD in Animal Science. These programs are an integral part of the Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences (ALES), in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The ALES poultry and swine programs have a network of commercial producers and commodity groups it collaborates with on a regular basis in addition to various other stakeholders. Engagement and leadership with industry partners, poultry and swine scientists, veterinarians, and knowledge of manufacturing and innovation globally is integral to the position.

Teaching

• The candidate will teach across the Animal Science curriculum, including undergraduate and graduate level courses with a focus on Monogastric Nutrition and Monogastric Production Systems; supervise and mentor graduate students. In addition, the candidate will be expected to contribute to curriculum development and academic program planning.

Research

• The successful candidate will be expected to develop, grow and lead a strong and collaborative research program within the Division of Animal Science and the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science (AFNS). The candidate’s area of research will focus on fundamental and applied aspects of Monogastric Nutrition. Specifically, the candidate is expected to build a funded research program related to poultry nutrition and production to complement the existing expertise in the department.

Service

• An Academic Faculty member shall be actively engaged in service to the University and participate in the collegial responsibilities of departmental, Faculty, and University governance. Provision of service to the discipline of the Academic Faculty member; participation in the governance of the University, the Faculty, and the Department, and dissemination of knowledge to the general public by making available the Academic Faculty member’s expertise and knowledge of the discipline.

• Ph.D. in Animal Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong record of emerging research accomplishments and the ability to develop, grow, and lead an impactful research program. The ideal candidate will be recognized by peers as a potential or demonstrated leader in their discipline, with the vision and talent essential to lead a novel and collaborative research program that complements existing strengths and transcends institutional, disciplinary, and international boundaries.
• Demonstrated success in securing funding will be an asset.
• The successful candidate will also serve as an ambassador and leader for teaching best practice(s) and demonstrate the ability to mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Demonstrated ability to foster and lead strong collaborative networks with key partners and organizations across the University of Alberta and beyond.
