The City of Lethbridge Purchasing Department has an exciting career-building opportunity for a Corporate Services Buyer to join our team of professionals in a temporary capacity. This position supports all City Departments in the procurement and contracting of goods and services while delivering value-added solutions that strengthen operational needs.
The Corporate Buyer plays a critical role in supporting City operations through strategic and compliant procurement practices. Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor, you will contribute to the development of effective sourcing approaches, provide informed guidance to departments, and help shape procurement planning through early engagement with business units.
STATUS: Non-Permanent Term Relief (up to 16 months)
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week
PAY RATE: $41.35 per hour
In this role, you will:
- Lead competitive sourcing, including RFx development, evaluation, negotiation, and award.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with trade agreements, legislation and City policies.
- Advise departments on purchasing policies, procedures and best practices.
- Conduct fair, open and transparent procurement processes.
- Develop sourcing strategies that support operational needs and long-term value.
- Implement strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, process improvement and total cost of ownership approaches.
- Communicate clearly with clients and vendors throughout procurement and evaluation activities.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers and internal partners.

Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Economics, Commerce, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation or equivalent is preferred.
- Additional training in financial management, public administration, government relations, project management, and/or change management is an asset.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in professional public-sector procurement required.
- Experience in competitive procurement, including RFx development, competitive bidding, evaluation and negotiation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and experience with ERP systems.
- Knowledge of public-sector procurement requirements, trade agreements and relevant legislation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear guidance to departments and engage effectively with suppliers.
- Proven ability to build productive relationships with internal clients, suppliers and cross-functional partners.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills for solving complex and sensitive issues.
- Proven planning and organizational skills to make timely decisions and manage delivery, combined with the ability to prioritize workloads and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High standards of integrity and professionalism.
Additional Information
The successful applicant under consideration must have a valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate auto insurance to travel to project meetings as required.
