As a Crisis Intervention Specialist, you will address the crisis needs of individuals who are referred to you from the Community Integration Service team and business units across the corporation as they relate to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main. You will provide crisis-focused, short-term assistance, with a reliance on referrals to other agencies for long-term assistance. Primary duties include: 

• Assess resident needs arising from the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, including psychosocial distress, safety concerns, access to potable water, sanitation challenges, displacement impacts, and service disruptions. 
• Provide trauma-informed emotional support and practical assistance to residents experiencing acute stress, uncertainty, or frustration, helping to de escalate crisis situations and stabilize individuals and families affected by the emergency. 
• Support residents with service navigation and problem solving, including referrals to appropriate municipal, community, and government resources (e.g., water access supports, financial assistance, housing supports, health and social services), and advocate on behalf of residents where barriers or gaps are identified. 
• Work collaboratively with City departments, community agencies, support coordinated response efforts, maintain up-to-date referral pathways, and contribute to the development and refinement of emergency response and recovery protocols. 
• Document resident interactions, issues, and outcomes, and communicate key themes, emerging concerns, and resolution status back to the referring team, Community and Business Relations, or Emergency Operations functions as appropriate. 
• Identify recurring issues, unmet needs, and service gaps experienced by impacted communities during the Bearspaw South Feeder Main work to inform continuous improvement, recovery planning, and future emergency preparedness. 
• Perform administrative duties including file management, record keeping, and report writing.

Qualifications 

• A degree in Social Work and at least 3 years of related professional experience working with distressed individuals in crisis situations or under similar conditions is required.
• Membership as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) through the Alberta College of Social Workers, or registration prior to first day of work, is required.
• A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) is required.
• Access to a personal vehicle for business use OR ability to obtain a City of Calgary Operator's permit is required.
• Training or course work on crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and short-term supportive counselling would be considered an asset.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills are essential for this position.
   

Working Conditions: Office environment with travel to offsite community locations as required. This position works with clients who may be unpredictable, highly stressed, intoxicated, or experiencing mental health issues.  Pre-employment Requirements
