This temporary position leads a project to prepare amendments to industrial Area Structure Plans in alignment with the Industrial Investment Action Plan. Working closely with internal teams and external collaborators, you will support the creation or amendment of industrial Area Structure Plans. You will also review land development applications to evaluate policy alignment and deliver recommendations.
What will you do?
- Support changes to industrial Area Structure Plans under the direction of a Principal Industrial Policy Planner
- Propose policy and regulatory document updates that advance corporate growth objectives
- Maintain project management tracking tools such as charters, Gantt charts, decision logs, and risk registers
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engagement activities with industrial landowners, industry representatives, and other interested or affected parties
- Prepare plan amendment bylaws, council reports, presentations, and plan consolidation documents
- Support the creation of new industrial Area Structure Plans, including drafting policy content and maps
- Review industrial land development applications (LDAs) for policy alignment and attend pre-application meetings
- Formulate clear recommendations to Planning Coordination and Development Services
- Collaborate across City departments to understand the impacts and trade-offs of proposed policy changes
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a related degree focused on positional functions
- Minimum of two (2) years of related planning experience in land use policy or land development planning

- Strong organizational skills to manage tasks independently, document decisions, and maintain project schedules
- Clear written communication for preparing reports, bylaws, and presentations
- Critical thinking to evaluate trade-offs and resolve complex policy challenges

Work Environment
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
- This role works primarily in an indoor setting
