Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.  As a Training Officer, Light Rail Transit (LRT), you will provide unbiased, safety-based training on rules, operation and working in proximity to the LRT Right of Way (ROW) and Light Rail Vehicles (LRV)/Maintenance equipment. Primary duties include:

• Deliver in-person training and using specialized equipment, safety protocols, active and post incident response and expectations.
• Facilitate the 3-day LRT Rulebooks Training and the 25-day LRT Mainline Training.
• Complete consistent evaluations of operators during and after the training program.
• Ensure safety and security by training safe entry and exit to vehicles and facilities, ergonomics when in cab, protocols during emergencies, dealing with customers, safe switch throwing techniques and proper radio procedures.
• Conduct remedial training including refreshers and annual requalifying presentations and testing.
• Conduct refreshers on accidents/incidents, exposure, performance, return to work and ergonomic training.
• Evaluate driver's operational skills, speed adherence, operational efficiency and compliance to safe operations rules on an ongoing basis and deliver findings.
• Facilitate, educate and set safety standards for maintenance equipment training on over 30 pieces of LRT equipment.
• Complete Car Van 1 Ton training for multiple business units and external contractors.
• Provide employees and customer support when there are incidents or delays.
• Design new training materials and programs and modify current content relating to policies, equipment and safety standards.

Qualifications 

• A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) and job-related courses in Human Resources, Management, Adult Learning or a related field and at least 3 years of transit related experience OR; 
• A completed 1-year certificate or a completed 2-year diploma in Human Resources, Management, Adult Learning or a related field and at least 2 years of transit related experience.
• For education obtained outside of Canada an International Education Equivalency Assessment must be provided. 
• Preference will be given to applicants who have at least 1 year of experience as an LRT training Officer.  
• A minimum of a valid Class 5 Operator's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 3 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required. 
• Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. 
• Previous experience with training and mentoring is an asset.  
• Training experience on maintenance equipment, such as forklift, traction power switchgear and cranes is an asset. 
• The successful applicant will have exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills, strong technical knowledge and the ability to use good judgement with making decisions and problem solving. 

 Working Conditions: In-class and onsite training with exposure to hazards around LRT vehicles, Right of Way (ROW), transit facilities and interactions with difficult customers. Pre-employment Requirements 

• A security clearance and vulnerable sector search will be conducted. 
• Successful applicants must pass a medical test. 
• Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills. 
• Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

• Compensation: $43.90 - 58.68 per hour
• Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
• Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
