Reporting to the Director, Human Resources Consulting and Wellbeing, the Wellbeing Advisor is responsible for coordinating and managing disability claims, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work programs. The position manages short-term disability, long-term disability, accommodations requests, and Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) cases.
The Wellbeing Advisor provides expert advice and support to employees, managers, and union representatives on disability management and accommodation matters. This role is responsible for determining eligibility and entitlements, facilitating accommodation and return-to-work planning while ensuring legislative compliance.
Major Responsibilities
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
The Wellbeing Advisor provides expert advice and support to employees, managers, and union representatives on disability management and accommodation matters. This role is responsible for determining eligibility and entitlements, facilitating accommodation and return-to-work planning while ensuring legislative compliance.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage short-term disability, long term disability, and accommodation cases.
- Provide accommodation and complex disability management advice and support that complies with appropriate legislation, other governing documents and collective agreements, and university priorities and values.
- Develop accommodation plans; liaise with managers, employees, and union representatives about accommodation plans; oversee implementation and review effectiveness of accommodation plans.
- Establish and maintain efficient processes for disability management claims and accommodation requests.
- Manage and document medical leaves and accommodations, maintain claim files with return-to-work information.
- Submit and monitor Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims online, ensuring timely follow-up for claims necessitating modified work or lost time.
- Research, develop, and implement ability management policies, procedures, templates and forms based on best practices.
- Collect and analyze data and prepare applicable reports and proposals.
- Work closely with functional areas of HR, senior leaders, legal counsel, and employees to reflect institutional needs and understand/implement collective agreement and legislative processes and obligations.
- Assist with conducting reviews of HR services to create more inclusive HR services, and to foster improved workplace experience for all faculty and staff.
- Work collaboratively with various teams on proactive approaches to emergent issues that affect faculty and staff well-being from a human rights lens.
- Act as the coverage for the other Wellbeing Advisor, ensuring regular communication to ensure an efficient cross-over when needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
