Amazon wants 9,000 extra hands for the holiday rush.
The company is hiring seasonal workers at 55 sites across Canada, with average pay of nearly $24 an hour. That’s about $9 an hour more than Alberta’s minimum wage.
Some of those jobs are in Alberta. An Amazon spokesperson told the Calgary Citizen that seasonal positions are available in the Calgary area, but said the company doesn’t yet know how many.
It’s a bigger push than last year, when Amazon set out to hire more than 7,000 seasonal workers in Canada.

What the jobs pay
Amazon says seasonal jobs pay an average base wage of nearly $24 an hour across Canada.
That’s a national average, so individual Alberta jobs could pay a little more or a little less. Each posting lists its own rate.
Here’s how it compares:
Alberta minimum wage: $15 an hour, unchanged since 2018
Amazon seasonal average: Nearly $24 an hour
Amazon permanent operations average: $26.27 an hour
At $24 an hour, a 40-hour week works out to $960 before taxes.
Amazon raised pay for its permanent operations staff in September, putting more than $78 million into a $1-an-hour bump across Canada.

Where Amazon operates in Alberta
Amazon has built a big footprint in Alberta over the last decade:
Balzac, north of Calgary: An established fulfilment centre in Rocky View County
Calgary area: More fulfilment space, including a robotics-enabled facility
Nisku, south of Edmonton: A fulfilment centre in Leduc County
Acheson, west of Edmonton: The YEG2 fulfilment centre, a 2.4-million-square-foot building in Parkland County
Delivery stations: In and around Edmonton and Calgary
Amazon hasn’t said which of these sites are hiring this season. Each job posting lists its exact location, so check before you apply.
What the work is
Amazon is hiring for three kinds of sites:
Fulfilment centres: Where orders are picked, packed and shipped
Sortation centres: Where packages are sorted by destination
Delivery stations: The last stop before packages go out for delivery
The jobs include stowing, picking, packing, sorting and shipping orders. Shift details are listed in each posting.
What benefits you get
Seasonal workers get select benefits from day one:
Mental health and wellbeing support through Amazon’s Employee Assistance Program
A 10% discount on groceries and daily essentials on Amazon.ca, including pantry items, household products, personal care and pet supplies. The discount launched Oct. 1 and has no cap on savings.
Seasonal workers don’t get the full package. Extended health, dental and vision coverage are for permanent full-time employees.
Can it turn into a permanent job?
It can, but there’s no guarantee.
Amazon says seasonal work can be a way in, and that some of its current managers started as seasonal workers. Permanent employees can also access Amazon’s Career Choice education program.
If you want to stay on after the holidays, ask about permanent openings when you’re hired.
How to apply, and how to avoid scams
Apply through Amazon’s official Canadian hiring site: hiring.amazon.ca.
Search for jobs in Calgary, Edmonton or nearby communities. Amazon says it’s posting jobs on a rolling basis through the season, not all at once, and they can fill quickly. Check back often.
One warning: Amazon says it hires directly and never charges a fee to apply. If anyone asks you to pay to get an Amazon warehouse job, it’s a scam. Only apply through the official site.
