The post-Stampede stretch is quietly one of the best weekends of the Calgary summer. Two of the standouts are free — a 200-vendor street festival in Inglewood and Canada's biggest dog festival in East Village — and the rest run from foothills markets to a new habitat at the zoo. Inglewood Sunfest
Festival
More than 200 vendors line 9th Avenue SE for one day as Inglewood closes the street. Parking evaporates fast, so park in the residential streets toward the Bow River pathway or take transit, and hit the booths before the crowd peaks around 2 p.m.

Day of the Dog
Community
Billed as Canada's biggest dog festival, with an 80-foot dog pool party and breed races — the French bulldog running of the bulls, plus wiener-dog and corgi races — in East Village. Bring water and a towel for your dog; midday sun on the pavement is hard on paws, so morning is kinder.

Calgary Surge vs. Edmonton Stingers
Sports
The Battle of Alberta rivalry game. WinSport's arena is far smaller than the Saddledome, so sightlines are excellent from almost any seat — buy the cheaper upper tickets and still be close to the action. The free Canada Olympic Park pathways are right there beforehand.

Historic Calgary Week
Community
Opens Friday and runs into August with 90-plus walks, talks and tours under the theme "Chinook Country: Influences and Icons." The guided neighbourhood walking tours are the gems and fill up — most are first-come, so arrive ten minutes early. Free photo exhibitions run inside the Central Library if the weather turns.

Millarville Farmers' Market
Food
One of Alberta's largest and oldest outdoor markets, with 150-plus vendors about 40 minutes southwest of the city. Go right at 9 a.m. for the best baking before it sells out, bring cash for the by-donation entry and smaller vendors, and make a foothills day of it.

Heritage Park
Outdoors
You can browse the Plaza shops, market vendors and restaurants without paying village admission — a solid free option. If you do go into the historical village, the antique midway and the steam train are best mid-morning before the lines build.

Wilder Institute / Calgary Zoo — Asian Highlands
Outdoors
The new Asian Highlands habitat — snow leopards, red pandas and Sichuan takin — opened in mid-July, so it's brand new this month. Go early, before the midday heat sends the animals into the shade, and book timed tickets online to skip the gate line.

The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland
Community
The riverside grounds where the Bow and Elbow meet — the site formerly known as Fort Calgary — are free to walk and connect to the RiverWalk pathway, a good free outing on their own. Hands-on workshops with Indigenous artists run inside on the weekend and need pre-registration if you want to join one.
