The sign is up.
Nearly a year after Altea Active announced plans to turn a former RONA in west Edmonton into a huge fitness and wellness club, the project is getting close.
Altea signage is now on the building at 17303 100 Avenue NW. Founding memberships are selling in phases. And the company is hiring.
Altea says the 125,000-square-foot club will open this winter. It hasn't announced an exact date.
Inside the old big-box store, Altea is building 10 indoor pickleball courts, four padel courts, nine studios running more than 400 classes a week, a HYROX training centre, and a recovery area with cold plunges, dry saunas and steam cabins.
That's roughly the floor space of two football fields.

Altea Active signage is now up at the former RONA at 17303 100 Avenue NW in west Edmonton.
Announced nearly a year ago
Altea first announced its Edmonton club on Oct. 9, 2025, after signing a deal with Allard Developments for the former RONA space.
Since then, the branding has gone up on the building, founding memberships have sold through several phases, and the company has started hiring.
10 pickleball courts, and four for padel
Racket sports take up a big part of the club.
Altea says the 10 indoor pickleball courts will run year-round, with drop-in play, regular matches, leagues and tournaments.
There will also be four padel courts. Padel is played on an enclosed court, a bit like a mix of tennis and squash, and the ball can be played off the walls.
Court time, paddles and rackets are included with membership, according to Altea.
In a city where outdoor courts sit under snow for months, that's a big part of the pitch.

More than 400 classes a week
Altea's nine studios are expected to run more than 400 classes every week, including Reformer Pilates, mat Pilates, yoga, cycling, barre, boxing, and strength and conditioning.
There's also LF3, Altea's small-group strength program with set programming and certified trainers.
A private Pilates studio unlike Altea's other clubs
One room stands out.
Altea's Refine Studio will offer private and semi-private Reformer Pilates on high-end equipment, including Cadillac reformers and a Wunda chair. Altea says it will be the only studio of its kind at any Altea club.

A HYROX training centre
The club will also have a dedicated HYROX training centre.
HYROX is a fitness race that mixes running with workout stations, and it's one of the fastest-growing fitness competitions in the world. Altea's centre will have the gear used in HYROX events: sleds, kettlebells, rowers, SkiErgs, wall balls and running turf.
There's also a separate women's performance training centre, and a regular strength and cardio floor.

Cold plunges, saunas and steam
Recovery gets its own part of the building, with cold plunges, dry saunas, steam cabins, contrast therapy and a recovery lounge, plus spa-style change rooms.
Room to work, and a coffee bar
Not all 125,000 square feet is for working out.
Altea is building coworking and lounge areas with free Wi-Fi, where members can work on a laptop before or after a class. There's also a coffee bar, a smoothie bar and grab-and-go food.
Parking is free.
What a membership costs
Founding memberships are already on sale.
Altea's site says Phase 3 founding memberships have sold out, and a limited number of Phase 4 rates are left. Prices go up as each phase sells out.
Founding memberships start at $59.99 every two weeks. That's not $59.99 a month. Over 26 payments, it works out to about $1,560 a year, before any fees.
You don't pay a deposit or any fees until the club opens, according to Altea. It's also offering virtual tours before opening.

Altea is hiring
Altea's careers site recently listed at least 16 job postings for West Edmonton, and many of them don't need a fitness background.
Openings include personal trainers, café associates, member engagement associates, a front-of-house supervisor, a facilities technician, a food and beverage supervisor, a membership sales coordinator, facilities associates, and coaches for pickleball and padel.
It's also hiring instructors for Reformer Pilates, mat Pilates, yoga, boxing, barre, cycling and other boutique fitness classes.
Altea's careers page lists West Edmonton jobs in building operations and maintenance, member experience, membership sales, personal training, the smoothie bar and café, and youth programs.
There's a mix of full-time and part-time work. The pickleball and padel coaching jobs are part-time, while personal trainer, facilities technician and membership sales coordinator are full-time.
Several postings said Altea planned to start actively recruiting in September and October 2026.

When does it open?
Altea says this winter, on both its main site and its Edmonton site. It hasn't given a date.
Its own pitch for the project: "Nothing like this exists in Edmonton. Yet."
This corner of west Edmonton is changing too
Altea isn't the only new name appearing around this stretch of 100 Avenue.
There has been more commercial activity around the site, with several recognizable restaurant brands now in the immediate area.
Jersey Mike's Subs has a West Edmonton location at 17207 100 Avenue NW, just down the road from Altea. The American sandwich chain has been expanding quickly in Alberta as part of a much larger Canadian expansion.
Jerusalem Shawarma also operates nearby at 17109 100 Avenue NW.
And Chipotle signage has been spotted in the area, pointing to another major restaurant brand coming to this part of west Edmonton. An exact opening date has not been publicly confirmed, so we'll be watching for more details.
It's a noticeable change for an area long anchored by big-box retail. Altea will bring a large fitness and wellness operation to the former RONA while more restaurants and services fill in around it.
