The Opportunity
Keyano College is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as Director of Facilities & Asset Management. The Director, Facilities and Asset Management provides strategic and operational leadership for the College's facilities, infrastructure, space, and physical assets, ensuring a safe, reliable, accessible, sustainable, and cost-effective environment that supports institutional priorities. The role oversees facilities operations, maintenance, capital projects, asset management, and long-term planning, balancing current service needs with asset stewardship, regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and risk management. As a senior leader, the Director provides strategic advice on capital priorities, infrastructure investments, and operational risks to support informed decision-making and long-term organizational success.Note: This is an on-campus position and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work, the successful candidate must work in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and relocate to the region if not already residing locally.

• Leads the development and implementation of long-term facilities, infrastructure, asset, capital, and space plans aligned with institutional priorities, service requirements, and financial capacity.• Provides strategic leadership for the safe, reliable, accessible, compliant, and cost-effective operation of college facilities, utilities, grounds, and related infrastructure.
• Establishes priorities for asset renewal, deferred maintenance, capital investment, and space utilization based on risk, condition, lifecycle, compliance, and institutional needs.
• Ensures accessibility, sustainability, energy performance, resilience, and long-term flexibility are integrated into facilities planning and decision-making.
• Leads multi-year capital, infrastructure renewal, modernization, and deferred-maintenance planning. Oversees projects from business-case development and funding recommendations through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, closeout, and transition to operations.
• Oversees facilities-related services, including building operations and maintenance, custodial and grounds services, utilities, parking, fleet, housing and tenancy services, waste management, security infrastructure, and contracted services, as assigned.
• Provides leadership for facilities safety, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, operational recovery, and business continuity, ensuring that risks, deficiencies, incidents, and service disruptions are addressed promptly and effectively.
• Provides stewardship of significant operating, maintenance, utilities, contracted-service, infrastructure-renewal, and capital resources, including budget development, forecasting, variance management, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Establishes contract and service requirements and monitors contractor and service-provider performance, safety, compliance, insurance, cost, deliverables, service levels, and value for money.
• Leads, develops, and supports a high-performing workforce and service culture through effective people leadership, workforce planning, succession management, employee development, performance management, succession planning, and effective contractor oversight.
• Provides strategic advice and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board, while building and maintaining effective relationships with government, regulators, industry partners, consultants, contractors, and the community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:• A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, facilities management, business administration, or a related discipline is required. A relevant master’s degree is considered an asset.
• Relevant professional credentials in facilities management, engineering, architecture, construction, skilled trades, project management, asset management, energy management, sustainability, emergency management, or business continuity are considered assets. A valid driver’s license is required.
• A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in facilities, infrastructure, construction, engineering, asset management, or a related operational environment, including significant experience leading a complex, multidisciplinary portfolio in a large organization.
An equivalent combination of relevant education, professional credentials, and progressively responsible experience may be considered.
Preferred qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience managing significant capital and operating budgets.
• Experience leading employees in a unionized environment.
• Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety, environmental, building, fire, accessibility, and life-safety requirements.
• Experience using computerized maintenance-management, asset-information, project-management, and financial-reporting systems.
• Proven leadership and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate in a cross functional environment.

• This position qualifies for additional payment of the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month (This allowance is reviewed annually and is subject to budget approval).
