If you've ever ordered something on Amazon and watched the tracking sit on "out for delivery" longer than expected, there's good news.
Lethbridge now has its own Amazon delivery hub.
A new 20,000 square foot facility has opened in Churchill Industrial Park, and it changes how packages get to your door. Instead of orders travelling through a distant sorting network before finally reaching southern Alberta, they now land at a local hub first cutting down the distance between your order and your doorstep.
For anyone who's ordered something with Prime One-Day Delivery and waited two, that's a real difference.

A local business is running it
The hub isn't operated by Amazon directly. It's run by Aminat Popoola, a Lethbridge entrepreneur and owner of RHAY Logistics, through Amazon's Delivery Service Partner program a model that lets independent business owners build and operate their own local delivery service under the Amazon umbrella.
That means the drivers delivering to your door are local, the business owner is local, and the money flowing through that operation stays closer to home.
Popoola says the community response has already been warm.
"Our team in Lethbridge and the surrounding area are hearing positive feedback from local customers, who appreciate the dedication of our drivers and our commitment to supporting local businesses and charities," she said.

What this means for Lethbridge
Beyond faster deliveries, a facility this size brings jobs drivers, logistics coordinators, and support staff needed to run a 20,000 square foot operation daily.
Lethbridge is now part of a growing list of mid-sized Canadian cities where Amazon has planted roots through its DSP program, following similar hubs in Sarnia, Cornwall, and Kingston in recent years. The city joins more than 4,500 Canadian communities eligible for free Prime One-Day Delivery.
Amazon says it hit its fastest delivery speeds ever for Canadian Prime members last year, with more than 450 million items arriving same or next day across the country. The Lethbridge hub is a direct part of that push.
