A driver is dead after a weapon was fired at their vehicle on Highway 2 south of Edmonton Saturday afternoon, and the suspect remains unidentified.
At around 2:50 p.m. on March 14, a white or grey pickup truck pulled up alongside a black 2012 Honda Civic near Township Road 490. The truck sped off. The Civic rolled to a stop on the shoulder. The driver was dead inside.
According to Alberta RCMP, the highway was closed between Leduc and Township Road 490 while officers worked the scene. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has since taken over the investigation.

RCMP say they have not yet identified the pickup truck or established whether the victim and the suspect knew each other.
Anyone who was on that stretch of Highway 2 around 2:50 p.m. or whose dashcam may have captured the area is asked to contact Leduc RCMP at 780-980-7267, according to an RCMP news release.
