If you've been waiting for the big purple waterslide at Clareview to reopen, there's finally an answer.
But first, the whole pool has to close.
The aquatic centre at Clareview Community Recreation Centre in northeast Edmonton closes Saturday, Oct. 10 and stays shut through the end of February. It's scheduled to reopen Monday, March 1, 2027.
That's nearly five months without the pool.
The biggest job in the $1.1-million project is replacing the large purple waterslide, which has already been out of service for more than a year.
And the replacement involves more than swapping one slide for another.
The purple slide has been closed since August 2025
The City of Edmonton says the large waterslide has been out of service since Aug. 29, 2025, because sections of its flume need to be replaced to maintain customer safety.
The replacement is happening during the upcoming shutdown.
By the time the aquatic centre reopens in March, the slide will have been unavailable for about a year and a half.
The new slide will use treated water
There's also a change happening behind the scenes.
The existing waterslide draws from untreated pool return water. As part of the replacement, the system is being re-piped so the new slide draws from a fully filtered and treated water source.
The project also includes mechanical and electrical upgrades for code compliance.
Lockers and change rooms are being updated too
Crews will use the same closure to tackle other work around the aquatic centre.
That includes replacing lockers, adding privacy stalls to the men's aquatic change room, servicing the pool's filtration system and refreshing the change rooms.
Regularly scheduled facility maintenance will also be completed during the shutdown.
That leaves the entire aquatic centre closed from Oct. 10 through Feb. 28.
What swimmers lose until March
Clareview has considerably more than one pool and a waterslide.
The aquatic centre includes a 25-metre, eight-lane saltwater pool, a leisure pool with a lazy river, a tot pool, a warm-water teaching pool and a whirlpool.
There's also a five-metre diving platform, springboards and a steam room.
The aquatic area can hold up to 550 people.
The main pool is normally kept around 29 C, the leisure pool around 32 C and the tot pool around 35 C.
All of it will be unavailable during the closure.
You can still swim at Clareview until Oct. 10
The purple waterslide is already closed, but the rest of the aquatic centre isn't.
Swimming continues on the City's regular schedule until Oct. 10.
After that, Clareview swimmers will need another pool until March.

Families specifically looking for another big slide have several choices.

Booster Juice Recreation Centre in Terwillegar
Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre
O'Leary Leisure Centre
Mill Woods Recreation Centre
Jasper Place Leisure Centre
Check the City's schedule before going, since individual amenities and operating hours can change.
Peter Hemingway is already closed
Another major Edmonton pool is already unavailable.
The Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre remains closed after significant flooding during the July 10 storm.
The City says remediation is projected to be completed by mid-to-late fall.
That means its closure could overlap with Clareview's for part of the fall, temporarily taking two City aquatic facilities out of service at the same time.
The rest of Clareview Rec Centre stays open
The Oct. 10 closure is limited to the aquatic centre.
Clareview's fitness centre, walking and running track, gymnasium and two indoor arenas remain open.
The surrounding Clareview District Park isn't affected either.
The recreation centre is at 3804 139 Ave. NW, next to Clareview Transit Centre and LRT Station. It opened in 2014.
