Alberta RCMP have made an arrest in the Peace River gas station killing that shocked the region last week and the victim has now been identified.
Hashi Guled, 74, was a taxi driver who had made his home in Alberta. He was found dead at the Petro-Canada on 78 Street in Peace River in the early morning hours of April 23. He was laid to rest in Edmonton today, surrounded by his community.
Daniel Michel Campion, 37, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous driving causing death. He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is May 25 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.

Surveillance footage showed Campion physically assault Guled, steal his red 2005 Dodge Caravan taxi, then run him over while fleeing. Guled was found dead at the pumps roughly two hours later.
"We received a great deal of helpful tips from the public during this investigation," said RCMP MCU Staff Sgt. Tyrone Brand. "With community support, we were able to quickly identify and arrest the suspect in this tragic death."
Why Not Murder?
The charge has raised questions in Guled's community. Under Canadian law, murder requires proof of intent to kill. Manslaughter applies when death results from an unlawful act without that proven intent. RCMP have not stated a motive and have not designated the killing a hate crime. Those questions remain open. But for Guled's family and community, the question of why a 74-year-old man working a night shift does not warrant a murder charge remains unanswered.
Campion is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.
