The City of Edmonton has 35 jobs open, and the lowest-barrier one on the list asks for Grade 10.
They run from a Landscape Technician at $34.31 an hour to a Supervisor of Paving Operations at up to $136,046 a year.

The roles that don't need a degree
Start here, because this is the part of the list most people scroll past.
Cure Site Equipment Operator III — $37.37 an hour, or $78,032 a year, permanent full-time, CUPE Local 30.
The qualification is completion of Grade 10 or equivalent, two years operating compost screening equipment, stacking conveyors, loaders, horizontal grinders, water trucks and excavators in a composting facility, plus one year of heavy duty equipment operating experience.
The work is at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre compost curing site, running a grinder, shredder, tracked excavator with hydraulic grapple, water truck and articulating wheel loader. Beyond the equipment it includes light maintenance and cleaning, troubleshooting mechanical issues, tarping aerated static piles, assembling and running pumping equipment, and sorting through grass, leaf and yard waste dropped off by residents.
The posting is direct about conditions. Adverse weather, uneven terrain, dusty or allergenic materials, sorting manually and with machines, and being fit-tested for an N95 respirator. Shift work including mornings, afternoons and nights, with rotating shifts possible.
You need a valid Alberta Class 3 with air brakes and a City Driver's permit. Location is the EWMC Cure Site at 250 Aurum Road NE, 40 hours a week, one permanent full-time position, and applicants may be tested. Closes September 11.
LRT Track Maintainer — $37.35 an hour. A route into transit maintenance.
Landscape Technician I, Forestry Tree Inventory and Assessment — $34.31 an hour.
Word/Data Processing Clerk II, two postings, one as a Warrant Management Clerk and one in Records Management. Word/Data Processing Clerk III, Police Seized Vehicle Section, Floor Supervisor.

Safe Mobility Engineer in Training — $35.60 to $43.27 an hour. That role sits inside the City's traffic safety work, which council has been pressing on all year.

Planning
Six planning positions are open.
Planner I, three separate postings including one focused on risk, all at $51.61 an hour. Industrial Policy Planner (Planner I) at $48.77. Principal Industrial Policy Planner (Planner II) at $51.18. Social Planner, HELP Navigator Operations Coordinator.
Technology
End Point Technician, Technology Services Division with the Edmonton Public Library — $37.50 to $47.87 an hour, roughly $68,521 to $87,471 annually on a 35-hour week, CSU 52.
The role covers endpoint computing and attached peripherals, printing, scanning and copying, audio visual equipment, and library-specific technology including RFID readers and automated materials handlers. It wants a related diploma or degree, with CompTIA A+ preferred and Microsoft certification in current endpoint technologies an asset, plus three years of endpoint support in a business or enterprise environment. Experience supporting MacOS in an enterprise setting and writing PowerShell scripts is preferred.
The posting also asks for a commitment to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Associations position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion, which isn't a line you see on most IT jobs.
Varied schedules including day, evening and weekend shifts, at the Milner Library on Sir Winston Churchill Square. A resume and cover letter are required. Closes August 30.

Outreach work at Milner puts you at the centre of downtown Edmonton's social services picture. It's been posted since July 8, longer than anything else on the list.
What the City counts as one employer
Several of these postings aren't City Hall.
The Edmonton Public Library hires through the same system, which is why the End Point Technician and the Milner outreach role appear here. So do police support functions, which is where the Word/Data Processing Clerk in the Police Seized Vehicle Section sits.
Union coverage varies by role. The Cure Site position is CUPE Local 30 and the library technician is CSU 52, and the collective agreement determines the pay band and the progression.
If you're browsing, that means the range of work is wider than a municipal careers page suggests.
What to know before applying
The pay bands are real. Most City roles are unionized, which is why the numbers appear in the posting. The rate listed is the rate.
Closing dates are hard. The End Point Technician closes August 30 and the Cure Site Equipment Operator closes September 11. City competitions have set deadlines rather than rolling review, so applying early doesn't help the way it does elsewhere. Addressing the qualifications properly does.
Answer every listed qualification in writing. City postings state essential qualifications and score applications against them. Failing to address one is the most common reason an application is cut before anyone reads the resume, and it has nothing to do with being unqualified.
Expect background checks, particularly on library and police-adjacent roles.
Some postings note a lower classification is possible. The End Point Technician says candidates who don't meet the requirements may be considered at a lower developmental classification and pay level. Worth applying even if you're short on one item.
