Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will be part of a team providing financial expertise and support to a business unit or group of business units. Working as a partner, you will use your understanding of a business unit's operations to help with achieving its financial goals and business objectives. Primary duties include:
- Work with business unit representatives to collect, analyze and review information and provide explanations to prepare operating and/or capital budgets, budget status reports and monthly management reports, executive summaries, year-end and periodic financial statements, as well as forecasting/budget projections.
- Support the Finance Coordinators, Finance Lead and business unit in the development and application of financial and economic tools such as business scenario modeling and business evaluations, and zero-based budget analysis.
- Support Financial Accounting Services team for duties related to month-end reporting and working papers for monthly, periodic and year-end reporting.
- Review and analyze grant programs, program expenses, revenues, and recoveries, and provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Oversee the position budgeting process and reconciliations.
- Analyze discrepancies between operational applications and financial systems, working closely with the Cash Management team and operations to identify root causes and support issue resolution.
- Support business performance reporting through the analysis of recreation facilities' financial performance, operating metrics, revenues, expenditures, and cost recovery trends.
- Support capital planning initiatives through financial analysis, funding reviews, business case development, and operating impact assessments.
- Work with business units to review and analyze internal financial controls, risk management and business processes as required.
- Participate on project teams or provide subject matter expertise to project groups as required.
- At least 13 accounting courses recognized by CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant).
- At least 4.5 years of experience in a complex and highly computerized accounting environment.
- Technical accounting skills including analyzing budgets and year-end financial statements and working papers.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) is required.
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial and Supply Chain Management (FSCM), Human Capital Management (HCM) and Hyperion (Budget Planning and Reporting); Oracle SmartView for MS Office will be considered assets.
- Previous experience must include working knowledge of grant programs and accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
- Creative thinker demonstrating analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills with customers and operations, and experience handling sensitive information.

- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees.
