RCMP in Parkland County are looking for answers after a 1,000‑pound safe disappeared from a property in Stony Plain, raising questions about who took it, how they moved it, and what might have been inside.
According to RCMP Alberta, the theft happened sometime between April 25 and May 1 at a location near 52nd Avenue in Stony Plain. Investigators say a dark‑coloured truck pulling a trailer was seen on April 27 or 28 loading the safe before leaving the area, and they now want to speak with anyone who might have seen that vehicle or captured it on camera.
A heavy, old safe and a brazen theft
The safe isn’t a modern office model. Photos shared by RCMP Alberta show a large, old‑style safe on casters marked with historic company lettering, the kind of thing you’d expect to find in an early‑20th‑century business, not disappearing down a residential or light‑industrial street.
Moving something that size and weight likely took planning. A 1,000‑pound safe usually requires multiple people, proper equipment, and enough time to get it onto a trailer. That’s part of why RCMP believe someone in the area may have noticed the activity, even if it didn’t seem suspicious at the time.

Why Parkland RCMP are pushing for video
Parkland County and Stony Plain sit on busy commuter and commercial routes west of Edmonton, and 52nd Avenue sees a mix of local traffic, delivery vehicles, and residents coming and going. That means there’s a good chance doorbell cameras, business security systems, or dashcams picked up the truck, trailer, or safe at some point between April 25 and May 1.
Even small details can help: a company logo on the truck, a distinctive trailer, the time of day it passed, or a partial licence plate. Investigators are especially interested in footage from April 27 or 28, when the dark‑coloured truck and trailer were reportedly seen loading the safe.

What RCMP haven’t said yet
Police have not released information about what, if anything, was stored inside the safe or whether it was in use at the time it was taken. They also haven’t said whether they believe the suspects had a direct connection to the property or targeted it after scouting the area.
For now, investigators are focused on identifying the truck and trailer, tracking their route, and figuring out where the safe was taken after it left Stony Plain.
How people in Parkland can help
RCMP are asking anyone who lives, works, or drives near 52nd Avenue in Stony Plain to check their cameras for the last week of April, especially April 27 and 28. A clip of a slow‑moving truck and trailer, a glimpse of a heavy safe being moved, or anything that feels out of place could be useful to the investigation.
Anyone with information or video from the area is asked to contact Parkland RCMP at 310‑RCMP.
