For anyone living west of Calgary, getting to a Costco has always meant committing to a real drive. Beacon Hill is north. Buffalo Run is south. Neither is close if you are coming from Springbank, Harmony, or Cochrane.
That changes this fall.
A 165,000 square foot Costco warehouse is under construction at Bingham Crossing the long-planned development sitting on the corner of Highway 1 and Range Road 33, directly across from Calaway Park, in Springbank. Rocky View County issued a building permit valued at $25.8 million in January 2026. Construction is underway. Fall 2026 is the target.
We covered this location in our full Alberta Costco roundup read it at culturealberta.com/articles/every-costco-opening-in-alberta-in-2026-full-list. This article goes deeper on Bingham Crossing specifically.

Where it is and who it serves
The site sits about 10 kilometres west of Calgary's western boundary at 69 Street SW. Highway 1 runs straight to it — which means anyone heading to Banff or Canmore drives past the front door.
Within a 12-minute drive: Springbank, Harmony, Cochrane, Valley Ridge, Bowness, Crestmont, Cougar Ridge, Greenwich, Trinity Hills, and West Springs. For Springbank acreage owners and Harmony residents that is a 25 to 35 minute drive eliminated. For Cochrane it cuts the Costco trip roughly in half compared to either existing west Calgary location.
It is also the first Costco that people heading west on Highway 1 for the weekend will pass before they leave the city grid entirely. That matters for a business whose members are already conditioned to make big stock-up trips.

What the store includes
A 165,000 square foot warehouse standard full-size format for new Costco openings in Alberta. The plans include a Costco Liquor store and a gas bar alongside the main warehouse. Both are typical additions at new Alberta locations.
Costco closed on 18 acres at the site with developer Rencor in late 2025 before the permit was issued in January.

The road work that is already happening
This one is easy to miss but worth understanding. Getting a Costco into Springbank required rebuilding the intersection.
Two new high-speed ramps one eastbound, one westbound are being added to Highway 1 at Range Road 33. Both Range Road 33 and Township Road 250 are being widened. New traffic circles are going in around the site. Bingham Crossing prepared a Transportation Accommodation Plan that is being shared with surrounding communities as the work progresses.
On-site construction covers underground services, the private spine road, and site infrastructure. The scale of the road work is the clearest signal that this is not a small development — the province and the county are rebuilding the intersection to handle what comes next.

What else is going in at Bingham Crossing
The Costco is just the start. The full Bingham Crossing build-out covers 309 acres 270,000 square feet of open-air retail in a high street format, dining, service businesses, a 190-unit seniors housing complex, and municipal green spaces.
Leasing of the surrounding retail is underway now. Tenant possession for the first surrounding stores is expected between late 2026 and early 2027. Specific tenants have not been announced yet.

When it opens
Fall 2026. No specific date has been confirmed. Costco does not typically announce opening dates far in advance — the first real signal usually comes from job postings in the weeks before a store opens.
