If you bought a Movie Night Gift Set at Costco this fall, check the chocolate bar before anyone eats it.
Costco Canada is recalling the gift set after a packaging mix-up. Some of the chocolate bars inside contain almonds, but the label doesn’t say so. For Canadians with a tree nut allergy, that can be dangerous.
The recall covers sets sold at Costco warehouses across Canada and on Costco.ca between Sept. 24 and Oct. 16, 2026. Shoppers can return them for a full refund.
What’s being recalled
The product is the Movie Night Gift Set, from Morris National Inc.
Costco item number: 2069285
According to Costco’s product listing, the set comes with popcorn kernels, seasonings, candy and a Lamontagne Milk Chocolate Bar (100 g). The candy includes Nerds Gummy Clusters, Mike and Ike, Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers and Laffy Taffy.
The problem is the chocolate bar. Some bars labelled as plain Lamontagne Milk Chocolate are actually Lamontagne Milk Chocolate with Almonds.
“Because the presence of almonds is not declared on the chocolate bar label, the Gift Set is being recalled,” the notice says.
The recall is about the chocolate. Costco hasn’t reported a problem with the other snacks in the box.
Check these two lot codes
Look at the plastic wrapper on the chocolate bar itself, not just the outside of the gift box. That’s where the codes are printed.
| Lot code | Best before |
|---|---|
| 2G25804A | March 28, 2028 |
| 2G25704B | March 28, 2028 |
Costco’s notice includes photos showing exactly where to find the codes.
If your bar matches, don’t eat it, serve it or give it away. And don’t assume it’s fine because it looks like plain milk chocolate. That’s the whole problem.
Why hidden almonds are a big deal
Almonds are a tree nut, and tree nuts are one of Canada’s priority food allergens. Under Canadian labelling rules, they have to be clearly listed so people with allergies can avoid them.
Someone with an almond allergy would read “milk chocolate,” see no nuts on the label and eat it. For them, that could mean a severe reaction, including anaphylaxis.
Signs of a serious allergic reaction include:
Swelling of the face, lips or throat
Hives
Wheezing or trouble breathing
Dizziness
If someone has a severe reaction, use their prescribed epinephrine auto-injector right away if they have one, and call 911.
How to get a refund anywhere in Canada
Costco says you can return the Movie Night Gift Set to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.
The notice doesn’t say you have to go back to the warehouse where you bought it. That applies whether you shop in Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver or anywhere in between, and it includes sets bought online at Costco.ca.
For product questions, call Morris National at 1-877-667-9338, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern time. That’s 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Alberta.
What Albertans need to know
Alberta shoppers can return the gift set to any Costco warehouse in the province. That includes the Edmonton and Calgary warehouses as well as Red Deer, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie and other locations.
If you bought it on Costco.ca and had it shipped to your home in Alberta, you’re covered too. Bring it to your nearest warehouse.
Remember the time difference if you call Morris National. The line closes at 2:30 p.m. Alberta time.
Already gave it as a gift?
This is the part a lot of people will miss.
Movie night sets are made to be given away, and these sold in late September and early October. Some have probably already gone out as birthday presents, hostess gifts or teacher thank-yous. Others may be sitting in a closet waiting for Christmas.
Morris National is asking shoppers to pass the warning along.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask you to please pass this letter along to anyone to whom the Movie Night gift set may have been given,” the company said.
If you gave one away, send a quick text and ask them to check the chocolate bar.
Another recent Costco Canada recall
In September, Costco Canada recalled Rossdown Meal Starters Black Garlic Chicken Breast Chunks over a possible undeclared soy allergen. The affected lots were 2461263 and 2461272, and Costco offered full refunds.
