Birinder Singh, 22, has been identified as the man shot and killed while driving on Highway 2 south of Leduc on Saturday afternoon. Family and friends have identified Singh, who was an Edmonton resident.

Singh was driving with friends on the afternoon of March 14 when at around 2:50 p.m., a witness saw a white or grey dirty pickup truck pull up beside a black 2012 Honda Civic near Township Road 490. The truck sped away. The Civic pulled to the shoulder. Investigation revealed a weapon had been discharged toward the vehicle, resulting in the driver's death.
Southbound Highway 2 also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway was closed between the Highway 2A junction and Township Road 490 from mid-afternoon Saturday until early Sunday morning while investigators worked the scene.
No Arrests
Alberta RCMP's Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to determine a motive. Police say they have no photographs or footage of the suspect vehicle and have not determined whether Singh and the shooter knew each other.
RCMP are asking anyone who was travelling on Highway 2 near Township Road 490 around 2:50 p.m. on March 14 to come forward particularly anyone with dashcam footage from that stretch of highway.
