Alberta Health is warning the public after a confirmed measles case was traced to two visits at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Emergency Department.
Anyone who was present at 11205 110 Street, Grande Prairie during either of the following windows may have been exposed:
April 20, 2026 — 1:21 PM to 10:44 PM (MST)
April 22, 2026 — 8:33 AM to 1:40 PM (MST)

Who Is at Risk
Not everyone who attended is automatically at risk. You should take action if you:
Were born in 1970 or later, and
Have fewer than two documented doses of a measles-containing vaccine, or have never had measles
People born before 1970 are generally considered immune due to widespread natural exposure during that era.

What to Watch For
Measles symptoms typically appear 10 to 14 days after exposure. Watch for:
Fever of 38.3°C or higher
Cough, runny nose, and/or red eyes
A rash appearing 3 to 7 days after fever begins usually starting behind the ears and face before spreading down the body and limbs. On lighter skin it appears red and blotchy; on darker skin it may look purple or be difficult to see.
What to Do If You Were There
Do not go directly to a clinic or emergency room. If you develop symptoms, stay home and call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 before seeking any in-person care.
If you were exposed and are unvaccinated, a vaccine given within 72 hours of exposure can still prevent infection. Babies under one year, pregnant individuals, and those with severely compromised immune systems may qualify for immunoglobulin within six days of exposure call the hotline for guidance.
Check Your Immunization Records
Albertans 14 and older can check their vaccine history through My Health Record. You can also text "Measles" to 88111 to receive information by text.
The measles vaccine is free in Alberta. The standard schedule is two doses the first at 12 months, the second at 18 months.
