A missing Edmonton father and his two young children were seen in Lloydminster with an unidentified man on the same day they disappeared, police now say.
Scot MacDermid, 42, and his children, George, 6, and Lesley, 9, were last seen in Edmonton at Manning Town Centre on Friday, August 28.
They were later seen with an unknown man in Lloydminster at approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening, according to the Edmonton Police Service.
Police have released photographs and video of the man and are asking anyone who recognizes him to come forward.
Police do not know where they went next
EPS said the family's direction of travel after Lloydminster remains unknown.
Investigators believe they may have been seen in Saskatchewan or Manitoba.
MacDermid has been unreachable, and neither he nor the children has been seen or heard from since August 28.
Police said they are concerned for their welfare.
What Lloydminster means for the search
The sighting puts the family roughly 250 kilometres east of Edmonton, about two and a half hours by road, on the same evening they were last seen at Manning Town Centre.
Lloydminster sits directly on the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary. It's one city governed under a joint provincial agreement, with the border running down 50 Avenue.
That geography is why EPS is naming two provinces. Anyone leaving Lloydminster eastward is in Saskatchewan immediately, and Highway 16 continues toward Saskatoon and on to Manitoba.
It also means the appeal now reaches well past Edmonton. Police are asking people in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to look at the photographs, not just Albertans.
If you live along that corridor, or you work somewhere people passing through would stop, the images are worth a second look.

Scot MacDermid, 42, is five feet five inches tall and approximately 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
George, 6, is four feet two inches tall and approximately 45 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Lesley, 9, is four feet four inches tall and approximately 45 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
EPS has released photographs of all three, along with images of the unidentified man seen with them in Lloydminster.

Police have asked members of the public not to approach MacDermid or the children if they are spotted. Call police and report their location instead.
This is the second public appeal in the case. EPS first asked for help locating the family on September 8.
