As a Youth Employment Counsellor, you will be a member of the Youth Employment Team, providing career and employment counselling services to youth aged 15 to 24 years. Primary duties include:

• Provide one-to-one counselling to help clients with job searches and career planning, including the development of action plans.
• Create and deliver one-to-one and group training in areas such as career planning, interviewing, and job search strategies.
• Design and implement relevant education, training, and employment programs in collaboration with Youth Employment career and employment staff.
• Provide social and career assessments to clients using a combination of methods including counselling, interviewing, and standardized testing.
• Develop and maintain knowledge and relationships within the community to provide referrals and enhance accessibility to necessary services.
• Provide information on training and educational programs as well as labour market trends.
• Maintain client files and statistical reporting. 

Qualifications 

• A completed 2-year diploma in a Social Science field such as Social Work, Human Services, Recreation, Disability Studies, or a related field and at least 4 years of experience in career planning, employment counselling, and working with at risk youth (ages 15-24) and experience in directly addressing the social, emotional, and developmental needs of youth; OR
• A degree in a Social Science field such as Social Work, Human Services, Recreation, Disability Studies, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in career planning, employment counselling, and working with at risk youth (ages 15-24) and experience in directly addressing the social, emotional, and developmental needs of youth. 
• Knowledge of youth employment trends is required. 
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is considered an asset. 
• Success in this role requires exceptional work standards, the ability to maintain a high energy level, take initiative, work effectively in a team environment, and deal effectively with stressful situations as they arise. 
• You possess strong communication, counselling, and client engagement/rapport building skills. 

Pre-employment Requirements 

• A security clearance will be conducted.

Position and Pay Information

• Business Unit: Recreation and Social Programs
• Union: CUPE Local 38
• Position Type: 5 Temporary (up to 12 months)
• Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $41.49 - 55.51 per hour
• Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
• Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
