A Calgary boy spent Tuesday morning on the cold pavement of a northeast crosswalk, screaming in pain, while the driver who hit him was already gone.
Bentley St. John, 12, was doing everything right. He checked both ways before stepping into the marked crosswalk at Tarington Way and Taradale Drive N.E., backpack on, heading to his bus stop for school. Halfway across, a white four-door sedan struck him and drove off. His leg snapped in three places.
What surveillance cameras captured next is difficult to sit with. Bentley lying in the road. Cars going around him. A kid having to drag himself out of the lane before anyone stopped to help.

Bystanders eventually did and Bentley hasn't forgotten it. "Those people had a lot of courage in them," he said. "They made my heart feel better."
His family has less patience for the one who didn't stop. "You've hurt a kid," his sister Jaden Jacobson said. "You know the whole city's looking for you. Just show up and take accountability."
Calgary Police are still searching for the driver. The suspect vehicle is described as a white, four-door sedan with a sunroof and tinted front windows. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
