Calgary Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man involved in a wallet theft in Eau Claire that rapidly escalated into more than $43,000 in fraudulent charges and a targeted phone scam.

The Incident The theft occurred on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at a restaurant near the 200 block of Barclay Parade S.W.
According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), the victim had temporarily draped his jacket over the back of his chair while dining. Investigators believe an unknown suspect approached the chair from behind and removed the wallet from the jacket pocket. In a sophisticated secondary tactic, the victim was then targeted by a phishing scheme. Soon after the purchases were made, the victim received several phone calls from individuals posing as employees of the Royal Bank of Canada’s Fraud Department. The callers attempted to use the ongoing fraud to extract additional personal and financial information from the victim.
