The Lethbridge Police Service is looking to add Community Peace Officers to its ranks and the pay package is worth a second look. The starting wage is $41.99 an hour, roughly $87,000 a year. After completing an 18-month probationary period, that climbs to $46.67 an hour close to $100,000 annually. No prior law enforcement experience is required to apply.

It's a full-time permanent position with shift work, union protection under CUPE, and a fully sponsored training program. Applications are open now with a deadline of April 15.

What the Job Actually Is
CPOs in Lethbridge aren't sworn police officers, but they carry more authority than CPOs almost anywhere else in Alberta. The LPS program is unique in the province officers here have been granted enhanced authority to investigate theft and mischief involving property valued under $5,000, something most Alberta CPOs can't do.
Day to day they run foot and vehicle patrols, monitor public safety, and support officers on calls within their scope. Shift work days, evenings, nights, weekends. The role falls under the CUPE collective agreement. It's a realistic entry point into law enforcement for career changers, recent graduates, or anyone looking to serve their community without the full constable training commitment while still earning a competitive wage
