Why there are so many
The answer is in the faculty postings.
"As Red Deer Polytechnic's future takes shape, growing our breadth of credentials to include our own degrees and programs, our institution has high expectations of our amazing faculty."
RDP has been working toward degree-granting authority, and 31 openings at once in a city of about 100,000 reflects an institution staffing for what it's building rather than replacing people who left.
Which jobs offer the easiest entry point
If you're looking for a way in without a specific credential, these are the postings.
Athletics Game Attendant and Athletics Games Lead Attendant, both listed as hiring year round. Game-day operations work that runs on the athletics calendar.
Athletics PA Announcer, also year round. If you've ever wanted to call a game, this is the job.
Athletics Photographer, year round. Shooting varsity sport is real portfolio work, and it's how a lot of sports photographers start.
Event & Bar Attendant, casual.
Exam Invigilators, a casual pool. Supervising exams clusters around finals, and a pool posting means they hire from it as needed rather than filling one seat.
Visual Art Model. Life drawing and figure studies require a model to work from, and RDP hires for it directly.
Casual campus positions rarely get posted anywhere public, which is why most people don't know they exist.

Two dean positions
Dean, Indigenous Initiatives.
Dean of Enrolment Management and Registrar.
Both are senior leadership roles with institutional reach.
Also at the senior level: Director, Institute for Financial Literacy, Manager of Campus Facilities Operations, Manager of Student Care, Program Growth and Quality Manager with the Donald School of Business, and Program Development Manager for Transportation Grants.

What a Dean of Indigenous Initiatives does
Worth explaining, because the title appears at institutions across the country now and the substance varies.
The role generally sits in senior leadership and carries responsibility for Indigenous student success, relationships with nearby Nations and Métis communities, curriculum with Indigenous content, and the institution's response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, several of which speak directly to post-secondary education.
Red Deer Polytechnic acknowledges that it sits on Treaty 7 and Treaty 6 territory and the ancestral lands of the Métis, reflecting its position in central Alberta near the boundary between the two treaty areas.
For anyone considering the role, the practical questions are where the position reports and what budget it controls. Those two things determine whether it can act or only advise, and they're questions for the search process rather than the posting.
Teaching and curriculum
Seven teaching or curriculum roles are posted, most part-time or sessional.
Part-Time Business Instructor, FNCE 2310, winter term. Part-Time Business Instructor, FINS 4200, winter term.
Practical Nurse Instructors, part-time. Clinical Nursing Instructor Pool, RN, part-time.
Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Instructor, sessional.
Film and Media Production Subject Matter Expert and Curriculum Developer.
Digital Media and Public Relations Subject Matter Expert and Curriculum Developer.
Those last two are worth noting. A subject matter expert role is how institutions bring in working professionals to build a curriculum without hiring them full-time, and it's a route into teaching for people who never planned on it.
The line worth reading in the faculty postings
Most job postings tell you what you need. RDP's tell you what you don't.
"We do recognize that new hires may not have all the skills and experiences when applying. We want you to know that there is some flexibility to develop your talents over time."
The postings state that the initial focus for new faculty is teaching and student success, with opportunity for professional development, and that RDP expects faculty to acquire the identified key attributes over time.
That's an institution explicitly telling qualified people not to screen themselves out.
Trades and operations
Trades Shop Technician, Mechanical and Industrial.
Manager, Campus Facilities Operations.
Accounts Receivable Technician I.
Procurement Specialist.
Student support
Student Care Coordinator, posted September 10.
International Student Navigator, listed as an internship.
Accessibility Services Lead.
Relief Child Care Educator.
Administrative Assistant, Faculty PD Committee.
Event Services Lead Attendant.
What to know before applying
None of these postings lists pay. That's a real difference from provincial and municipal hiring, where bands are published. Post-secondary institutions in Alberta vary on this, and RDP currently doesn't. You'll have to ask.
Casual and pool positions hire on a rolling basis. The athletics roles say hiring year round, and the exam invigilator posting is a pool. Applying outside peak season can mean less competition.
Part-time instructor postings for winter term are hiring now. The FNCE and FINS postings are for winter semester, which means the decision happens well before January.
Read the faculty attributes. RDP lists five for faculty roles: teaching, student success, professional development, research and scholarly pursuits, and community contributions. Applications that address them directly do better.
