Edmonton is getting a major addition to its recreation landscape early next year. The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre will open its doors on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 ahead of the originally projected timeline and under budget.

A First for North America
What makes this facility stand out isn't just its size. It's the first indoor triathlon training centre in North America where athletes can swim, run, and cycle under one roof, year-round. The integration of the newly rehabilitated Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre with a 250-metre Category A velodrome creates something genuinely unique for the sport.
The Alberta Velodrome Association has already been operating the cycling track since mid-October 2025, and the full facility will bring everything together for triathletes and casual fitness enthusiasts alike.

What's Inside
The centre packs in a substantial list of amenities:
The aquatic side includes the familiar 50-metre pool at Peter Hemingway, along with a hot tub, sauna, steam room, and a newly added cold plunge pool. For those who prefer to stay dry, there's a 333-metre walking and running track, fitness centres, a bouldering wall, multi-purpose courts, a dedicated spin studio, and an indoor playground for families.
The velodrome portion can seat up to 940 spectators, with 264 permanent seats for larger events.

Grand Opening Details Still to Come
The City plans a grand opening celebration for the weekend following the January 27 opening, though exact details haven't been finalized yet.
Anyone looking to get ahead can take advantage of the current Black Friday promotion running until December 2 memberships purchased now will be valid at Coronation Park once it opens.
