Grande Prairie has been served by EB Horsman and Son for more than 65 years but until now, always from a distance. That changes August 1.
EB Horsman and Son, a 126-year-old employee and family-owned Western Canadian electrical distributor, is opening a full-line branch in Grande Prairie with a soft opening targeted for August 1, 2026. It will be the company's fourth Alberta location and its 21st branch across Western Canada.
The company has been serving customers in the Peace River Country region from other locations for decades. A Grande Prairie branch means local inventory, local counter service, local delivery, and local technical expertise rather than orders coming in from Edmonton or further away.
"Our expansion into Grande Prairie reflects our long-term commitment to Alberta," said Tyson Carvell, VP of Marketing. "We are bringing a combination of inventory, technical strength, and product lines that are not currently available in the region, backed by the resources of a 126-year-old Western Canadian independent company."

What the branch will stock
This is the detail that matters most for contractors, industrial buyers, and businesses in the region.
The Grande Prairie branch will be a full-line location carrying electrical supplies, lighting, data communications, and a process, automation and controls offering the PAC category including local access to Siemens distribution and automation product lines.
The Siemens distribution and automation access is the most significant addition. Siemens industrial automation and controls products have not had a local distributor in Grande Prairie. Contractors and industrial operators in the oilfield, forestry, and agriculture sectors who need those products have been ordering from Edmonton or further, waiting on shipping, or sourcing from alternative suppliers. A local branch with counter service and same-day access to those product lines removes that friction entirely.

What EB Horsman actually is
EB Horsman and Son has been operating since 1900. It is employee and family-owned not a publicly traded company and operates exclusively in Western Canada. The company has 21 branches across BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, supported by distribution centres that allow individual branches to draw on significant inventory depth even when they are relatively new.
For Grande Prairie buyers who have not dealt with EB Horsman directly, the company's model centres on technical expertise at the counter level staff who know the products and can help solve application problems, not just pull orders. The company emphasizes that its Grande Prairie location is designed as an efficient branch model built from best practices developed across its other recent branch openings.

Who is leading the new branch
Travis Cook was promoted to Area Manager, Northern Alberta effective April 15, 2026, to provide leadership and strategic oversight across both the Edmonton branch and the new Grande Prairie location. That promotion happening before the branch opens signals the company is treating Grande Prairie as a serious long-term investment with dedicated regional management rather than a satellite operation.

The jobs available right now
EB Horsman is actively hiring for the Grande Prairie branch ahead of the August 1 opening. Current open positions include branch manager, customer service manager, inside sales, counter sales, and material handler.
These are not temporary or seasonal positions. The company is building a permanent local team from the ground up people who will be with the branch from day one and help establish its presence in the region.

Why Grande Prairie makes sense for this expansion
Grande Prairie is the largest city in northwestern Alberta and the primary service hub for one of the most resource-intensive regions in the province. The oil and gas, forestry, and agriculture sectors that dominate the regional economy all have significant electrical and automation needs from industrial control systems on well sites to lighting and wiring on processing facilities to automation controls on agricultural operations.
For a company like EB Horsman, Grande Prairie is not a speculative market. The demand has been there for decades. The question was always whether a local branch could be efficiently staffed and stocked to serve it. With 21 branches worth of operational experience and a distribution centre network behind it, the company has clearly decided the answer is yes.
