At 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, Calgary Police were called to the 2100 block of Woodview Drive S.W. in the community of Woodlands.
A young woman was on the ground, seriously hurt. Paramedics responded. There was nothing they could do.
She was declared dead at the scene. Police taped off a large stretch of Woodview Drive as the morning commute began. Evidence markers lined the street. Acting Inspector Mike Anderson addressed reporters at the scene.
"When we respond to calls like this, it's important to capture all the evidence available," he said. "Unfortunately, that necessitates a large crime scene and a little bit of inconvenience for local residents but it's part of us doing our job."
For Christy Kloepper, a Woodlands resident who had moved to the neighbourhood just two months earlier, it was hard to process.
"We thought it was a safer place to bring up our little guy," she said. Her fiance's car was parked inside the taped-off area. He couldn't leave for work.

Angeline Boucher, 16
Police confirmed her identity the following day, after an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on May 7.
The victim was 16-year-old Angeline Boucher. Those who knew her remembered her as a caring, funny sister. A memorial at the scene began growing Friday. Calgary Police and the city extend their condolences to Angeline's family and everyone grieving her loss. She was Calgary's youngest homicide victim this year.

The Weapon Is Still Out There
Police believe the altercation happened near the intersection of 24 Street and Woodview Drive S.W. just steps from where Angeline was found. They also believe whoever is responsible ditched the weapon nearby before leaving the area. As of Sunday, no arrests have been made and no suspect has been publicly named. Investigators are combing through CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses. Police say they do not believe the incident was random.
The weapon has not been found. Police are asking anyone in the Woodlands area to check their garbage bins, recycling bins, backyard, and surrounding areas. If you come across an edged weapon do not touch it. Call police immediately.
