Fourteen Edmonton-area employers made Forbes' 2026 Best Employers ranking, and four of them also landed on its separate company culture list.
Half of them are hiring right now.
Stantec finished 7th in Canada for company culture. The Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta ranked 33rd nationally on the broader list. And seven of the 14 have 508 open roles between them on the Culture Alberta job board, including more than 300 at Stantec alone.
Forbes published two Canadian employer rankings this year: Canada's Best Employers 2026 in January, and Canada's Best Employers for Company Culture 2026 in July.

Four made the culture list
The July ranking measures how employees rate their workplace on fairness, inclusivity, work-life balance and opportunity.
Stantec: 7th.
ATB Financial: 56th.
Freson Bros.: 95th, headquartered in Stony Plain.
University of Alberta: 149th.
Stantec jumped 57 spots, and it's the biggest employer on the board
Stantec placed 64th on Forbes' company culture ranking in 2025. This year it climbed to 7th nationally, the highest-ranked Edmonton-area organization on the list and one of only two Alberta employers in the top 10.
The engineering, architecture and environmental consulting firm was founded in Edmonton in 1954 and employs roughly 13,200 people.
It also has more open roles on the Culture Alberta job board than any other employer in the province: 302, across six cities. Postings this week include Senior Civil Technologists in Edmonton and Calgary, and a 16-month Civil Engineering Co-op position starting summer 2027.
Forbes doesn't explain individual ranking movements. Results come from anonymous employee surveys, so a jump that size doesn't trace to one change.

WCB Alberta ranked highest among Edmonton employers
At 33rd nationally, the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta was the highest-ranked Edmonton employer on Forbes' January list, and one of only two Edmonton-area organizations in the top 100.
The provincial agency administers workplace injury insurance, is headquartered in Edmonton and employs about 2,000 people. It currently has 11 open roles on our board.
ATB Financial is hiring across the province
ATB placed 56th for culture and 287th on the broader list.
It has 65 open roles across seven Alberta cities, the second-most of any employer on either Forbes list.
The gap between its two rankings shows how differently the lists work, which is worth understanding before you use either one to choose an employer.
Why the two rankings look different
Both lists were produced by Forbes with market research firm Statista, but they measure different things.
The January ranking is broader, weighing whether employees would recommend their employer along with factors like benefits, pay and flexibility.
For the July culture list, more than 37,000 Canadian-based employees at organizations with at least 500 staff were surveyed anonymously about fairness, inclusivity, work-life balance and opportunities for advancement.
Neither ranking directly compares salaries, turnover or job security. They're a starting point, not a verdict on what a particular team is like.
EPCOR publishes its pay
EPCOR placed 137th on the January list, and it was also named to Mediacorp's Canada's Top Employers for Young People, along with PCL Construction.
It stands out on the job board for another reason. Its postings list wages up front.
A Senior Analyst, Regulatory Reporting role posted this week starts at $53.92 an hour, is a unionized 11-month term, and is eligible for hybrid work with two days a week onsite. Other current EPCOR postings include a Senior Advisor in Health and Safety and a Project Manager in Distribution.
PCL was recognized for young workers too
PCL Construction placed 200th in January and was also named to Mediacorp's list for young workers, alongside EPCOR, recognized for support programs, internal courses for early-career employees and student loan assistance.
It currently has 19 open roles in Edmonton and Fort McMurray.
Freson Bros. made both lists
The Stony Plain family grocer placed 152nd in January and 95th for culture in July, ahead of the University of Alberta on that list.
It's the only grocery chain from the Edmonton region on either ranking.
The University of Alberta is the largest post-secondary employer on the board
The U of A placed 149th for culture and 154th overall.
It has 86 open roles, the most of any post-secondary institution in Alberta. This week's postings include a Senior Consultant in Organizational Change Management, an Educational Technology Coordinator, a Field Research Technician and a Portfolio Analyst.

Calgary employers made up most of Alberta's entries on the July culture list. But Stantec's 7th place trails only one of them: Bethany Care Society at 5th.
