The City of Edmonton is hiring someone to prune trees. It pays $25.93 an hour.
Across downtown, the province is hiring a senior lawyer to draft Alberta’s laws at up to $269,435 a year. ATB Financial is hiring people to secure its AI systems.
All three are on our job board right now. As of Nov. 2, it lists 1,568 Edmonton job listings from 66 employers, and 340 of them were posted in the past seven days.
Engineering firm Stantec has 126 openings, the second most of any employer in the city. The University of Alberta, Ledcor and the provincial government are close behind. Plenty of the jobs don’t need a university degree.
Here’s who’s hiring, what they pay and what closes this week.
Edmonton’s job market: Alberta is adding jobs, Edmonton isn’t moving
Alberta added about 23,000 jobs in September, according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey. The provincial unemployment rate fell to 6.4%. Canada went the other way: it lost about 68,000 jobs, and the national rate rose to 6.5%.
Edmonton missed out on Alberta’s gain. The city’s unemployment rate held at 6.9% in September, the same as August. Calgary’s fell from 6.7% to 6.3%. The city rates are three-month averages, and Statistics Canada warns that small samples make them jumpy.
So Edmonton has openings, plus a lot of people going after them. Our job board shows where the work is:
Part-time work: 300 listings.
Management: 128 listings.
Analysis and consulting: 114 listings.
Engineering: 113 listings.
Retail and customer service: 111 listings.
Finance and accounting: 96 listings.
Skilled trades: 89 listings.
Statistics Canada releases October’s numbers this month. They’ll show whether Edmonton caught up.

ATB is hiring for AI and cybersecurity
The Alberta-owned bank has 24 listings in the Edmonton area, and the list reads more like a tech company’s than a bank’s:
Lead AI Security Developer and Senior Manager, Cloud & AI Security: both close Nov. 9.
Principal Solution Architect, Fraud and Cybersecurity: closes Nov. 12.
Cloud Security Analyst and Full Stack Software Developer: both close Nov. 9.
Quality assurance: an analyst, a lead, an automation developer and a senior manager, all closing Nov. 12 to 16.
ATB is hiring in its branches too: there’s a Personal Banking Advisor role open until Jan. 1, and a 12-month Client Service Representative term in Spruce Grove that closes Nov. 7. ATB’s postings don’t list pay.
Stantec, Ledcor and the construction boom
Stantec (126), Ledcor (103), Worley (60) and Clark Builders (42) have 331 Edmonton listings between them. EllisDon, Bird Construction and PCL add almost 100 more. The jobs run from engineers and project managers to site administrators and labourers.
Check the location line. A job filed under Edmonton can mean a site outside the city or a rotation.
University of Alberta: 104 jobs, plenty of them not teaching
Program Coordinator, Kule Folklore Centre: office work, budgets and events. Closes Nov. 11.
Administration Coordinator, Parkland Institute: hybrid, split between home and North Campus. Closes Nov. 13.

Got questions? Ask Edmonton in our Jobs & Careers forum
Finding a posting is one thing. Getting the interview is another.
Job postings don’t tell you everything. They won’t tell you what a City interview is like, how long a government competition takes, or whether ATB actually calls back.
Our Jobs & Careers forum is where you can ask. Post a question about a job, share how an application went, or help someone who’s where you were last year. Questions like these are welcome:
“Has anyone worked as a River Valley Ambassador? What’s winter like?”
“How long did your Government of Alberta competition take?”
“Is Stantec hiring new grads in Edmonton?”
You don’t need an answer to join in. Just keep your phone number, address and banking details off the board.
