Lethbridge's two post-secondary schools are hiring for 36 jobs.
The University of Lethbridge has 25 openings. Lethbridge Polytechnic, formerly Lethbridge College, has 11. Counts are from postings on the Culture Alberta job board as of September 21.
Most of them aren't professor jobs. The list includes an electrician, a caretaker, a financial analyst, trades instructors, nursing instructors, a genomics research chair, an owl-tracking research project, and a casual job playing patients so medical students can practise.

Permanent jobs on campus
At the University of Lethbridge, "full-time, continuing" means an ongoing position rather than a contract. Five openings carry that designation:
Electrician.
Caretaker II. Posted September 18.
Facility Operator, Athletics and Recreation.
Financial Analyst. Posted September 18.
Program Assistant.
None of them involve teaching or research. They keep the campus running.
Finance and IT
The university is also hiring a Finance System Implementation Manager, full-time and continuing.
And a SharePoint Analyst on a two-year term. The role helps build the university's electronic records management program using Microsoft SharePoint Online and Microsoft Purview, including retention policies and sensitivity labels. It reports to the Director of Infrastructure.
One detail in that posting applies more widely. The university is running a classification and compensation review for its Administrative Professional Officer positions, and says salary ranges for those roles may change as a result.

Teaching the trades
Lethbridge Polytechnic is hiring instructors in two trades:
Term Certain Instructor, Powerline Apprenticeship.
Term Certain Instructor, Heavy Equipment Technician.
It also has a Centre Technician, Carpentry opening, posted September 18. The technician supports instructors and students in the Centre for Trades and Technologies, maintains shops and equipment, and orders materials for classes.
The polytechnic is also hiring a Team Lead, Lab Operations.
For experienced tradespeople, instructing is a way to use the ticket without working the field.
Nursing instructors
Lethbridge Polytechnic is hiring Casual Clinical Instructors for its Practical Nurse and Bachelor of Nursing programs. Clinical instructors supervise students during their placements.
The University of Lethbridge also has a Nursing Sessional Instructor posting in Health Sciences.
Paid to play a patient
The University of Lethbridge is hiring Standardized Patients for the Southern Alberta Medical Program.
It's casual, and it pays $26.18 to $28.97 an hour.
Standardized patients are trained to portray specific medical scenarios so learners can practise taking histories, examining patients and talking through diagnoses before they do it with real ones.
It's also the only posting of the 36 that lists pay.
Research: genomics and owls
The university is recruiting a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Genomics in Precision Health. Canada Research Chairs are federally supported research positions, and Tier 2 chairs are meant for emerging researchers.
At the polytechnic, there's a Senior Student Research Assistant for the Northern Saw-whet Owl Motus Project. Motus is a wildlife-tracking network that uses automated radio telemetry to follow tagged birds and bats. The saw-whet is a small migratory owl.
The polytechnic is also hiring two student research assistants for its Centre for Public Safety Applied Research.
Faculty and sessional teaching
Permanent academic openings at the University of Lethbridge:
Assistant Professor, Psychology.

The university also has sessional lecturer openings, which are course-by-course contracts, in Counselling Psychology, Arts and Science, Fine Arts, the Dhillon School of Business, and Health Sciences.
The Indigenous Governance and Business Management program is hiring a sessional lecturer and a teaching assistant.
Sessional work is the usual route for working professionals who want to teach one course without leaving their job.

Check the term. Continuing, term, full fixed and sessional mean very different things for job security.
Ask about pay. Only the standardized patient role lists it.
Check eligibility. Several research and assistant roles are only open to current students.
Some postings have been up since July. The SharePoint Analyst was posted July 15. Longer-running postings are still worth applying to.
