Steve Phillip Gilbert Collins, 40, was taken into custody June 25 and charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of 16-year-old Jordynn Atkins-Materi on November 28, 2025. Police say the girl and a friend met Collins downtown the night before and went back to his home in the 8300 block of Centre Street NE. She was found unconscious the next morning. Calgary Police say this is the first time the service has ever laid a manslaughter charge in connection with a drug overdose death.
